HUGE Update to Avocadventure!
HUGE UPDATE TO AVOCADVENTURE:
So, I was thinking about adding more content and improve stuff for a while, and while browsing through itch.io's game jams, I stumbled across a unique jam, where instead of creating a game, you update and improve an existing one. Needless to say, I immediately joined :P
I'm gonna try list everything I've changed in this update, but it's a big one so I might miss some stuff.
Content:
- Added a new desert biome
- Added a new enemy: the Crippling Cactus
- Added two new bosses: the Multi-Cacti and the Big-Eared Ghostly Pepper
Bug Fixes & Optimizations:
- Fixed glitchy water and castle collisions
- Improved code efficiency, getting the FPS to consistently 60 (used to sometimes drop to 20!)
- Fixed some issues with the Gruesome Garlic's AI
Polish & Quality of Life Changes:
- Added glow to items like coins
- Added HP bars to all monsters
- Added a quit button to quickly close the game
- Redid the end-game castle area, with more anticipation build-up, and closing-in spiky walls to add some lovely stress ;)
Music & Sounds:
- Added music! Credit to SVL for their free RPG Music Pack
- Added lots of sound effects and improved existing ones. Downloaded some from freesounds.org and created some quick ones with SFXR
Accessibility:
- Added a button to turn off particles for sensitive users
Gameplay Changes:
- The Guard Gourds will now only let you through into the castle after you defeat all overworld bosses.
- Tweaked some dialogue
Other:
- Added a MacOS build. Only reason I didn't do that so far is because I had an issue with the export, turned out it was actually really simple. Enjoy the game Mac users! :D
- Added a logo and a custom loading image
That's it for now I think, probably forgot a lot of obvious stuff but I can't think of anything I missed right now.
As for how the development went, I worked on this update on and off for two weeks, with long periods of doing nothing and a couple of days of pure productivity when I made 95% of the update xD
Had a lot of fun coming back to this world and improving it, and I'll see you next update when I make this an open-world commercial game! :P
